Common Eye Problems You Should Never Ignore

It's common to have eye problems at some point in your life. Some may be minor and go away independently, while others may require special care. Other eye problems are linked to severe health conditions, while the rest can occur due to age.

If you haven't dealt with an eye problem, you might forget how essential your eye health is. This is why some people don't prioritize their eye examination schedules. Luckily, it's never too late to take care of the eyes. With regular eye exams and appointments, you can spot eye problems in advance. Below are eye conditions that may cause loss of eyesight or blindness without proper treatment.

Cataracts

As you grow old, the eye lenses can get cloudy, affecting your visual capabilities. If you don't seek treatment, the lens problem will get worse. You might find it challenging to operate a car or other machinery, or find it difficult to read, particularly at night.

Some cataract signs you shouldn't ignore include fading colors, the need to use bright light when reading, seeing halos around sources of light, foggy vision, and sensitivity to glare. Getting eye examinations regularly can detect cataracts. Also, you should see the eye doctor when you notice changes in your vision.

Dry Eye

Another common eye problem you cannot overlook is dry eye. This condition occurs when the eyes stop producing adequate tears or the proper form of tears. As a result, the eyes become painful and inflamed. Even performing simple tasks like reading or using a computer will become problematic.

Some common symptoms of this condition include red eyes, blurry vision, light sensitivity, itchy eyes, and a feeling that there's an object in the eye. Make sure you visit an eye specialist when you notice these signs. The eye expert will perform a diagnosis and recommend the best treatment or medication to assist the eyes in tear production.

Glaucoma

This eye condition increases eye pressure, damaging the optic nerve. If the condition isn't treated, it can cause blindness or loss of vision. Currently, there are various forms of glaucoma, so you will need the expertise of an eye doctor to identify the best treatment for your condition.

Common signs to look out for include tunnel vision, patchy blind spots, severe pain, intense headache, vomiting, red eyes, light halos, hazy vision, light sensitivity, and cloudy eyes. Remember, the signs vary depending on the severity and type of glaucoma. Don't hesitate to schedule an eye exam when you notice any of these signs.
